@Jenetrix For context to anyone who hasn't been to the devil's asscrack in the middle of summer, this king of the hill scene is 100% accurate. Phoenix gets hot. (Unit conversion: 44C)

Like "you need to park your car in the shade or put a big silver reflector in the windshield to avoid burning yourself on the seatbelts or steering wheel next time you use it" hot.

EDIT: And after a quick skim of a "wet bulb" temperature chart that takes humidity into account, that's only slightly hotter wet-bulb than what parts of Europe are currently going through... (There's usually single-digit humidity there when it's that hot out, vs 60-70% that parts of Europe are currently seeing)
Bobby reflected in a car's rear-view mirror (with a little temperature display hidden behind the subtitles) saying "111 degrees? Phoenix can't really be that hot can it?", followed by him getting out of the car with his mother while saying "Oh my god! It's like standing on the sun!" with Peggy then saying "This city should not exist. It is a monument to man's arrogance."

@becomethewaifu @Jenetrix I wondered if Phoenix is named after the fire bird, or the one regrowing from ashes. It's a very proper name for such a climate.

As an European, I find the current humidity unbearable already at 26°C and 65%, ACs are needed.

We also have buildings designed like greenhouses, many southern windows with no external blinds.

@lukyan @Jenetrix Modern US architecture is unfortunately similar. We have a bad habit of just brute-forcing the problem with AC instead of actually trying to reduce the heat getting in because the architectural features "look bad" or "would cut into the builder's profits" (my favorite design is actually angled slats that use the tilt of the earth relative to the sun to control whether they're blocking or allowing direct sunlight into the window, so are entirely passive. The sun is a lot higher in the sky during the summer, after all) with the major efficiency requirements being entirely for heating, with making the AC slightly more efficient being a side effect.

(Hell, a lot of modern office towers can't turn the AC off. They have no other way to dissipate the heat generated inside)

/hj, in minecraft, do go buy an air conditioner tho fr no but seriously though, invest in air conditioning its only going to get worse out here cuz of global warming.

and if your consciousness is bothering you about the power cost and a potential feedback loop of energy consumption to fix issues caused by rampant energy consumption, you can offset it by firebombing a datacenter. (for legal reasons that but about firebombing a datacenter is a joke.)

@Jenetrix having had this mindset for years, for the last couple of summers there has been more and more research into portable units has been happening (as the immediately available option).
Gonna be interesting how building standards will adapt (like I know recent projects without even external blinds on the sun facing sides).
