the recent AI drama in opensource makes a lot more sense logically when you view everything through the lens of "corporations are explicitly and intentionally trying to kill anything opensource that they cannot directly control themselves, or cannot strongarm into acting in the companys' interest"
@Elizafox humans are afraid of being treated by "higher intelligence" the way that humans treat what they consider "lower intelligence"
its more or less the same reason behind why a lot of humans think that giving rights (or god forbid, special or more equitable treatment) to those they view as lesser is a bad thing, there is the fear (however unfounded it may be) that in doing so that they will be treated poorly themselves as a result.
@raccoon generally speaking though the only winning move is not to play. the list is small for a reason and generally only close friends, partners, and my wife get the pass because its also about trusting someone enough to not abuse it because of how "intimate" of a nickname is in my eyes.
unless of course youre @yassie_j in which case they automatically get the "jenny pass" because yassie is yassie and when yassie does it its both endearing and highly amusing. :V
@raccoon its simple: have usage of it as a nickname for me come across as endearment instead of belittlement or condescension. (its a very fine line with me, because its easy for it to slip into it coming across as such, and its generally in the tone and how its used)
on that same note, if this classmate of mine in deutschkurs calls me "Jenny" one more fucking time...
he always does it in the most over the top and condescending manner too. he does not have the "jenny pass" and i don't let just anyone call me that. (theres only like 5 people who have the pass)
i don't write "jen" at the top of all of my coursework for no goddamn reason. my fucking desk nametag even says "jen" on it for fucks sake...
its not that i dont mind she/her, and i do prefer usage of feminine titles when referring to me, but they/them and it/its just fit better and i wish people would use them more when referring to me.
